Bearing Earth

A Poem by Lilah Rosenfield

  Sister
  I've passed many stars
  Walked many halls
  Since last I felt
  Your soothing touch
  The engines work
  A constant hum
  Our daughter grows
  A light
  But in your absence
  I feel the emptiness
  Loudest in quiet seconds

  Sister
  More years have gone
  Light unsurpassed
  And still we carry on
  The granddaughters
  Second spaceborn
  Have grown and found
  Their own
  And as for me
  My love I swear
  No others take your place

  Sister
  I lie here now
  Soon on death's door
  A third spaceborn attending
  And think of you
  My love, my truth
  To reunite in ending
